XP to Win7 migration with USMT
Hi, I'm aware that USMT 4 only works in online mode is there any way to include both the capture steps and restores steps into 1 OSD TS and that will capture the data and restore as well? or it can be done is other way? I need to do this for a corporate envirenment thanks

I'm aware that USMT 4 only works in online mode That is not a true statement. USMT 3 only works online; USMT 4 works on or offline and works as long as the destination OS is Win 7. Yes, you can include capture and restore in a single TS; that's actually the best method for in-place OS refreshes/upgrades. The built in TS wizard (to the best of my recollection) builds the deployment TS this way.Jason | http://myitforum.com/cs2/blogs/jsandys | http://blogs.catapultsystems.com/jsandys/default.aspx | Twitter @JasonSandys

I tried to create an OSD task sequence by using the template, however the default condition for the capture steps is : SMSTSInWinPE equals "false" how can I get over this? and my OSD task sequence build is done via pxe boot

to do Offline mode in WinPE using USMT 4 you'll need some workarounds as it's not a supported method in ConfigMgr, see here for an explanation of how to do it (webcast included) cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

there's nothing dodgy about it, Microsoft used a similar workaround to solve another issue , however if you want to only use supported methods then go with you'll have to use Online migration, which means scanstate in Windows (not in PE) like so, I would however recommend you at least test both the offline and online scenarios to see which works best in your environment cheers niall My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady
