audit collection services not sending data
Hi, I'm using SCOM R2 UPDATE 4 I have all the parts working for ACS but no performance data or event collection. I have the following alerts: Event Number: 4618 [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot grant, deny, or revoke permissions to sa, dbo, entity owner, information_schema, sys, or yourself. I found this in a blog: http://blogs.technet.com/b/jonathanalmquist/archive/2008/03/13/adtserver-event-id-4618-logon-failed.aspx My question is whether I need to do this for my current version and if this is a necessary step when using a domain account for sql (which is a Microsoft recommendation) then why isn't it in the documentation. It doesn't make sense for me to follow this critical configuration step from a blog and not from configuration documentation, unless this is not required and I need another solution. Thanks for your help

Setup documentation authors cannot predict all issues we will encounter in the field, but I do appreciate your concern. I would suggest that if you are concerned about implementing the workaround, go check the values on the objects and settings Jonathan's post suggests you need to change and see if the expected values are in fact missing. If they are, you should follow his advice.Pete Zerger, MVP-OpsMgr and SCE | http://www.systemcentercentral.com

Hi, I also found the following KB article regarding this event, please check if any information as below will help: Event 4618 is logged when you use the AdtSetup.exe program to update an Audit Collection Services installation in System Center Operations Manager 2007 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/949452Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question. Hi What account is the ACS Collector using as its service account? Is it NT Authoring \ Network Service? Which account is lised in the 4618 error? Is it the SQL Server service account? Does this have a login to SQL? Cheers GrahamView OpsMgr tips and tricks at http://systemcentersolutions.wordpress.com/

Hi, Yes, it's the NT Authority\Network Service Account. The user listed in Error 4618 as N/A. When I enable Audit Collection I choose the default which turns out to be NT Authority\Network Service. I'm asking myself how this is working and basically I'm looking for the documentation to break this down for me. Sql server is running under a domain account. Thanks for your help.

Hi I have just tested the following on a dev environment I have. Server 1 - SQL Server (ACS database) Server 2 - ACS Collector When I disable the NTAuthority\Network Service login on the SQL Server (Server 1), and then restart the ACS Collector on Server 2 - I get 4618 events in the Operations Manager event log. When I enable the NTAuthority\Network Service login on the SQL Server (Server 1), and then restart the ACS Collector on Server - everything works fine. So, could you check the logins on the SQL Server that hosts the ACS database to make sure there is a login for the NTAuthority\Network Service - it only needs public rights. Tried it and it looks like it's now connecting. Getting 4616 (connection established), but I still get 4618. Do your sql services run under a domain account? What's the best practice in regard to using the Network Service account? Currently, I don't have tables that start with Adtserver. Thanks for your help.
