cannot access sharepoint from the internet
I set up a sharepoint site which works perfectly from inside the LAN. However, no matter what I try,I cannot access it from the internet. When I enter the IP Address and Port number into my browser, I get the "Login" box but when I enter my user name and password I get the "Internet Explorer cannot display this web page" screen. I suspect it may be a permissions problem. Can anyone please help? Thank you so much in advance.......

My first thought is that you may need to set up AAM. Did you do that?

Yes, I set up AAM folowing all the procedures. Still nothing. From the internet I get the login screen. When i try to log in it tells me i don't have authorization. At first I used my IP address then I just decided to register another domain name and forward it to my server. This works fine, but still no luck. It's either a permissions issue or I'm setting up AAM wrong (I may be mis-understanding the term "public URL"or something else. I read a bit about reverse-proxy. Is this a necessary step? And if so, how do I go about setting it up?
Thanks..

Is the login screen a MOSS login screen or a pre-validation form from a firewall/proxylike ISA Server?

I'm guessing it's the MOSS login screen because it lists the name of the sharepoint site
above where I'm supposed to enter my cridentials. Besides, I'm not using any firewalls other than my router and the site is using on port 80. So I believe I'm at least hitting te site, just not getting in.

have you tried the credentials:
domain\username
password
we have a similar querk whereby remote users have to log in this way in order to access the site.
Also the 'Alternate Access Mappings' that Paul Galvin mentioned is a good one to check as well.
