client install & reinstallation
Hello all, I've a couple of questions about the client, that are specific to our setup here. Is it possible to install the client on a system, sysprep it and then deploy the client to hundreds of PCs? Instead of installing the client remotely/individually using SCCM or a manual install? We have a piece of software called DeepFreeze (it’s like Microsoft’s SteadyState, it returns the PC back to it’s default state when it’s rebooted). Therefore, installing the client after an OS is deployed would not be our preferred option. Also, how will SCCM react to a PC in the following situation – A physical PC is managed by SCCM for several months/years as a XP client..... The physical PC is then re-imaged (without using SCCM) with the same OS, or new OS (i.e. XP or Windows7) Then the SCCM client is reinstalled What happens to the old computer object in SCCM, is over written, does it create a new one? Are there any other pitfalls to doing this? We are required to re-image a lot of our PCs in our campus every year. I haven’t deployed SCCM yet, but I would be interested to see how the PCs/SCCM would react in this situation. Many thanks for any answers. LaszloPuskas

You can include SCCM client in OS image so you don't have to worry about later installation. But there are couple of things to keep in mind: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb694095.aspx

Thanks Christjan, just what I was looking for! Anyone fancy a bash on the other question? "how will SCCM react to a PC in the following situation – A physical PC is managed by SCCM for several months/years as a XP client..... If OS is reinstalled and then SCCM client is installed on a computer, the old computer object will become obsolete. These "old" records are deleted by "Delete obsolete client discovery data" task: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb632879.aspx
