error on Install Application task sequence

For our Windows 8.1 deployment using SCCM 2012 R2, the task sequences to apply the OS and install the CCM agent are successful, but not when it gets to the Install Application task sequence.  Initially, we had ticked "If an application installation fails, continue installing other applications in the list", but it managed to install none of the applications, so we ticked it to generate an error. See the smsts.log below from the C:\Windows\CCM\Logs\SMSTS folder.  What other logs can we check ?  Thanks

0x80004005 --> generic error & there could be multiple reasons for this error.

Can you please post snippets of AppDiscovery.log & AppEnforce.log files to check further. Moreover snippets of smsts.log posted by you is not complete. I would require relevant snippet of smsts.log file (where it attemped to install application by invoking App Management SDK).

You may also need to have a look at DCMAgent.log file for fetching Job ID in smsts.log file because there could be a possibility that apps are not able to download itself.

Error 0x80070002 is the error if application folder is not accessible ..

Hi,

To check the two log files mentioned by NavdeepSidhu is right direction to find the cause. Please attach the log files here. We will help you analyze them.

@NavdeepSidhu, the log dcmagent.log is a log file which contains evaluation of assigned configuration baselines or application deployment types. Usually, when the evaluation has problem, I think we will take a look at it and ciagent.log.

Juke, you are absolutely right however to find the relevant info in CIAgent.log, you need to know the job ID which you will get in smsts.log file & search this job ID in DCMAgent.log.

DCMAgent.log will further give CI Agent job number which we need to find in CIAgent.log file to get relevant information of an application.

Under C:\Windows\CCM\Logs, there's no AppDiscovery.log or AppEnforce .log

See below for the DCMAgent.log (will post all of smsts.log & CIAgent.log seperately)

There are too many lines in the SMSTS.log & CIAgent.log to post them in their entirety (there's a 60,000 character limit in the forums)

Which lines from the SMSTS.log do we need to post ?  (ie. the lines that start with . . . )

Thanks

Please post all logs (smsts.log, dcmagent.log & ciagent.log) at skydrive. We will have a look at them to suggest further.

By the way, are you able to install these apps outside of OSD TS?

January 7th, 2014 3:34am

Okay, see the links below.  Yes, we're able to deploy these applications in SCCM 2012 via the ccm agent to our workstations.

SMSTS.LOG, then CIAgent.log, then DCMAgent.log

I ticked "If an application installation fails, continue installing other applications in the list" for the Install Application task sequence & ran the deployment again.  See the new SMSTS.log, CIAgent.log, and DCMAgent.log in the skydrive link below

Do we need to do anything else in the Properties for the Applications, besides enabling "Allow this application to be installed from the Install Application task sequence action without being deployed" ?

The logs have been posted to Skydrive (see the links in this thread).  Any other logs that I should post ?

Thanks

There are too many software updates that need to be installed. The Software Update Task is hard coded to run up to 30 minutes. I suggest you refer to the KB below to set two software update task, you can also decrease the number of update deployments.

Okay, we'll limit the number of software updates or add more software update task sequences, and move the software updates to the end.  I'll disable for now.

I re-ran the deployment and none of the software in the Task Sequence gets installed.  We do successful deploy the same software to clients with SCCM 2012 R2.  We only started to try using Task Sequences to deploy OSes after updating to SCCM 2012 R2.

See link below for the smsts.log, ciagent.log, and dcmagent.log

Needed to use the "Join Domain or Workgroup" task sequence to add the computer to our domain first.  Plus increased the CCMcache size for very large application packages
