I'm trying to help someone with a MOSS 2007 setup who's having an issue, and I insisted they do a full backup before I touch anything. They just reported that their backup failed, and gave me the error log. In reading through it I can't tell exactly what failed, except that at the end of the log it says "Error: Backup failed for Object SharePoint - 8080 failed in event OnPrepareBackup." But earlier in the log it appears that SharePoint - 8080 was backed up. Can anyone tell me what went wrong, or what I need to do to pinpoint what went wrong and fix it? Thank you. I tried running a backup just on search and the backup failed with this error: Object SharePoint - 8080 failed in event OnPrepareBackup. For more information, see the error log located in the backup directory. KeyNotFoundException: The given key was not present in the dictionary. It looks like 8080 is the web application for WSS. What's odd, though, is that in the Backup and Restore status page, after the backup ran, it says "completed" in the Progress column for WSS Search. The error came under "Sharepoint - 8080", where it says "Preparing backup" in the "progress" column. So maybe search is not the problem here? What does a KeyNotFoundException mean exactly and how would I fix this? I tried doing a backup of everything but search, as you suggest, but if I deselect "search" it automatically deselects everyhing listed above. If I just back up the WSS Web Application only, I get the same error as above. postscript: on further exploration, it looks like the WSS web application was originally on port 80, then a new one got created on port 8080, and I was told the new one was "extended" to port 80. I'm guessing this is where the problem is--SharePoint is still looking at 8080 and not finding anything. CA lists 8080 as the port for the WSS web application. Solution?
