Hi, I have a working OSD TS. In which i am adding a Install software update step so that all the patches gets installed. when it comes to that step it halts showing the Downloading screen. if i check in smsts.log i get "Waiting for job status notification" continuosly. any thoughts wud be helpful. I am using SCCM 2007 sp2 to deploy windows7 image.

Is this a build & capture or deployment TS? Has the system been joined to the domain yet? Is the system within the site's defined boundaries? it is not a build and capture TS. its a deployment TS in which the machine would have already been joined to the domain. the machine is also under the defined biundary. When i check in the machine during the TS inside the cache folder the patch packages is copied.. but still it is halting. is there any setting in the Software update i have to do for adding patches in TS. currently we are successfully deploying patches on a already built machine.

how long have you actually waited ? have you verified that the sms agent host service is running (press f8, type taskmgr, check services). are you using a proxy ? if so check what windowsupdate.log says lastly, take a read of this post on myitforum.com My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

check your Internet Explorer connection settings, see how it's configured, if it's using a proxy then that might be part of your problem (if it's not set in the image...) My step by step SCCM Guides I'm on Twitter > ncbrady

I have checked the same...proxy settings are not enabled. I am running out of options now.

I am currently building another machine to get those logs. I had a doubt whether the no. of pacthes will affect the process. because it is showing 43 patches and i had read somewere that during TS the machine can do only 200 roundtrips to the server so i was doubting this would cause an issue.

Now i advertised only 3 patches to my machine , which installs fine. so concluded that its because of number of packages. dont know what the solution for this is from microsoft.

I did have a similar issue recently at a client. It ended up being thatsome of the updates were not downloaded and available in a package yet. @Jason:I checked for the packages. It is updated and in an accessible location. I did some more workaround with this issue. i put back all the patches but except the patch which was halting at the download point. i got this patch name from the Updates handler.log. So now when i try to build my machine again, i still get that window where it says downloading 1 of 43 patches. But when i check in the cache folder i can see around 26 patches now.( in my earlier case it had downloaded only 13 pacthes and was halting). so i have drilled down to 2 possible causes. 1. Some microsoft patches are not getting downloaded to my machine(dont know the reason) or 2. During a TS deployment there are certain size of pacthes which can be deployed above which the TS halts. anybody has any idea on this!!!!!!

Hi jason, Could you please elaborate on this. i have checked the physical folder where the "Install Software update" is trying to access from the server. and in that location the cab file of the patch exist(the folder name is some GUID for each patch under SMSpkgg$\<packageID>\). i even tried copying it manually to client cache folder and it is getting copied without any issue.
