sharepoint server farm with NLB
Hi there,We are planning to have to have three servers farm setup in our environment
Server 1 -- application and web front end server
Server 2 web server
Server 3 database server
We have completed installation of sharepoint on this server farm but didnt setup NLB yet on Server 1 and server 2. Can I configure NLB on server 1 and server 2 after installing sharepoint? Or do I need to setup NLB first and then install sharepoint?
We are kind of new to this distributed sharepoint server environment, I have the following questions
How can I create a new web application in a farm I think from application serverfrom server2 and create a new application and under Load Balanced URL enter the virtual IP address of load balanced configuration. Is it correct?
When I do step-1 it will automatically create all the necessary files on our front end web servers?is it correct ? are there any steps involve between ?How can I access this web application? I mean what would be the URL of this web application from the below three URLs?
http://server1:portnumber/sites/name/default.aspx
http://server2:portnumber/sites/name/default.aspx
http://virtualipaddress:portnumber/sites/name/default.aspx
If it is going to be (http://virtualipaddress:portnumber/sites/name/default.aspx ) how can I access the second web application when I create it later? what would be its URL ?Any links/posts which is having this information would be very helpful.Thanks,Vaishalivaishu.mspp

Hello Vaishali,
I try to include some information for your questions, as below:
1. Can I configure NLB on server 1 and server 2 after installing sharepoint? Or do I need to setup NLB first and then install sharepoint?I dont think its necessary to configure NLB before installing SharePoint products. Regarding your description, you are possibly want SharePoint Web Front-end Server to be load-balancing based on TCP/IP to route requests. To configure TCP/IP Network Load Balancing, please refer to:(KB323431) How To Set Up TCP/IP for Network Load Balancing in Windows Server 2003

2. How can I create a new web application in a farm I think from application serverfrom server2 and create a new application and under Load Balanced URL enter the virtual IP address of load balanced configuration. Is it correct? When I do step-1 it will automatically create all the necessary files on our front end web servers? is it correct ? are there any steps involve between ? How can I access this web application? I mean what would be the URL of this web application from the below three URLs? If it is going to be (http://virtualipaddress:portnumber/sites/name/default.aspx ) how can I access the second web application when I create it later? what would be its URL ?There are many questions specific to your environment, I recommend you to refer the following blog to adjust the process to configure NLB:SharePoint Farm, Virtual Server and Network Load Balancinghttp://www.sharepointblogs.com/aaronrh/archive/2007/04/13/sharepoint-farm-virtual-server-and-network-load-balancing.aspx
