sharepoint site is opening slow
Hi,
We are running sharepoint 2007 and my users says the site is taking 30 to 50 seconds to open a site. And when they open a site first time in the morning it takes minimum 60 seconds to open the site. is there any way to check why it is taking long time, please
help me i am new to sharepoint.
Thanks in advance

The reason it takes longer first time in the morning is that the browser (if IE) needs to download ActiveX stuff.
That doesn't explain anything more than the difference in time between opening the site "normally" and opening it first time in the day though.2010 Books:
SPF 2010; SPS 2010; SPD 2010; InfoPath 2010; Workflow etc.
2007 Books:
WSS 3.0; MOSS 2007; SPD 2007; InfoPath 2007; PerformancePoint; SSRS; Workflow
Both lists also include books in French; German; Spanish with even more languages in the 2007 list.

is this problem is specific to particular browser version (e.g. IE8 only?). Did you try to open your site in another browsers (IE7, FF)? In case of IE8 there is known issue described here:

There are plenty of other reasons which may affect performance. Check search crawler settings - whether it uses dedicated WFE (in case of farm) and was this WFE excluded from NLB rotation (check this article for details why it should be done like that:
How Sharepoint search may impact your performance with readonly hosts file )? If you use single server environment also check crawler configuration - is it correlated somehow with slowness time?Blog - http://sadomovalex.blogspot.com

Hi,
You can speed up the launching of the CompanyWeb site by changing the IIS Application Pool.
1. Go to IIS Manager
2. Open the Application Pools
3. Right click on the DefaultAppPool and go to properties
4. Go to the Performance Tab
5. Uncheck the top box - shutdown worker processes after being idle.
Best regards,
David HM
