1st time setting up exchange 2003
Hi,
I am trying to setup an exchange 2003 for the 1st time and had some problems getting emails into the organization. Questions I had are as follows:
a. Is it a must to register the IP to the Internet DNS so that emails can reach the server? At the moment, I am using the address admin@116.x.x.x to send emails but it is always stuck in another exchange server. If registering is required, can I register something like "gc.sg" instead "gc.com" (don't use the suffice ".com")?
b. I had earlier asked about forwarding emails from one domain to another in another separate and got a few solutions. As these are two different Exchange servers in two different forest, I found that I cannot send mails from the new server to old server. It always saying no user found. Do I need to create users on the new server and forward these mails to the old one?
Any help on the above is greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
Tan

Hi Tan,
Regarding the first question, I would like to explain that when external user attempts to emails to you. It will attempt to get your external mail server name by resolving MX record according to your domain. Then, resolve the mail server name to IP Address.
Regarding the second question, would you please describe your requirements for detailed?

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the reply. Everything works fine now after adding an external DNS record and configure the MX record. I do have another question though but for this one, its already been resolved. Many thanks for your attention.
