2010 SP1 - Moving mailboxes between databases creates a disconnected mailbox under "Disconnected mailboxes"?
Any idea why this happens? Moving a mailbox from a 2010 database to another database within the same server. For some reason the mailboxes show up under disconnected mailboxes in the Exchange Console GUI. I cannot remove the disconnected mailbox from the original database as it states "The mailbox doesnt exist on this database" when I run the powershell command against it?! The mailbox on the new database appears to be acting normally though? Is this by design? I also see event ID 9660 in the event log on the mailbox server stating USER failed to log on because their mailbox is in the process of being moved. But at the time of the move the users weren't even at work so the mailboxes weren't in use! It says this for every mailbox being moved? If this isn't normal behaviour, the only thing that has been done today is that the Database names were changed using this method: 1. Right click the database in org config and choose to move 2. A new path AND new file name was specified 3. Everything seemed to move OK so the database was then renamed in the GUI properties to match the new name Has this somehow started to cause this problem?

I have read this thread: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchange2010/thread/77d820eb-0613-40d5-b899-07e540ad1ad9 The "disconnected" mailboxes on the source database are showing as "soft deleted" so I'm assuming that is by design. I was expecting the soft deleted mailboxes to be removed as soon as the mailbox move was marked as complete. Looking here I can see that the soft-deleted items will show up in the disconnected mailboxes view until the deleted item retention period is met or you use the remove-storemailbox cmdlet. That explains why they are showing up in the disconnected section so that worry is over. Is the event log entry that spams the application log about the mailbox being moved so the user is unable to login normal?

Hi For how long have you waited after you moved the mailbox when getting this error? Give it some time to catch up the changes, 15-30min. Jonas Andersson MCTS: Microsoft Exchange Server 2007/2010 | MCITP: EMA 2007/2010 | Blog: http://www.testlabs.se/blog | Follow me on twitter: jonand82
