2 DAG

Hi

I have Exchange server 2013 with 4 Mailbox servers and I have DAG: DAG1

I need to enable archiving for all users but i have limitation for disk spaces on the mailbox servers so i will install another mailbox server for archiving purpose.

my questions :

can i add archiving database in my DAG?

Can i create another DAG : ARCDAG and put the 2 new mailboxes servers for archiving as a members and with this solution i will avoiding to have a copy from archiving database on the 4 mailbox servers which member in DAG1 cause i donta have fress space on that servers and i will have 2 new servers mailbox server for archiving purpose and the will be members in different DAG : ArchDAG

is it possible ?

what is the consideration ?

how can i calculate and sizing the archiving Database depend on the actual Mailbox DB i have.

Thanks

A DAG is not a collection of databases, but a collection of servers, so your question, "can i add archiving database in my DAG?" doesn't make sense.  Any mailbox database can hold regular and archive mailboxes; it doesn't matter where the archive databases are located.  That's what you're asking, right?

Since a DAG is a collection of mailbox servers, to create another DAG you would need additional mailbox servers.  I don't believe that there is any restriction preventing you from having a mailbox database in one DAG and an archive mailbox in another DAG, but that does seem like overcomplicating things a lot.  In your example, I would just put the two new servers in the same DAG or just add more storage to the existing servers, which would be cheaper.  I think it's a safe assumption that archive mailboxes don't put a lot of extra load on a mailbox server because they're not used that much.

It supports the decision (on another Exchange or the office 365), but you must understand, archive mailbox must be in the same site where the primary mailbox (It may increase the load on the network). And you may Arise problems in the case of DR and move between sites, if you do (if there is no database in a remote site). The number of possible administrative errors. Very often, there may be issues with the rights to access the archive mailbox to another server, it requires careful, refers to the rights and OS updates.

PS. As he said a colleague, perhaps you are advised to review the configuration and further steps to reconfigure and recalculate the Exchange server. It is necessary to consider the current size and growth of the dat
