2 SMTP connectors with same Bridgehead server
Hi,
I have 2 SMTP connectors configured with same bridgehead servers. The problem that i am currently experiencing is when connector 1 goes down i.e if the smart host configured is unavailable, connector 2 is not triggering though the smart host configured in
connector 2 is available. What should i do to make it configuration work? I read that this works if the connectors are configured with different bridgehead servers. I have Exch 2003 cluster with active/passive nodes. In the bridgehead server listi can
only see the cluster name and the FE (OWA) server.
Connector 1:
Smarthost IP: x.x.x.x
Bridgehead server: server1
Cost:1
Connector 2:
Smarthost IP: Y.Y.Y.Y
Bridgehead server: server1
Cost:10
Thanks,
Sridhar

You can only do load balancing, you can't do high availability.
Therefore you either need to match the cost, or put both smart hosts on to the same connector.

Once a message is delivered to a connector it stays there. It won't
move to another connector unless you alter the address space on the
connector.
Why not put both smart hosts into both connectors?

Hi,
You need to add the two smarthost servers in one connector. Then if one smart host is down, exchange will try to use another smart host:
1. Open the properties on the connector.
2. Under "Forward all mail through this connector to the following smart hosts", put in: [Y.Y.Y.Y][ x.x.x.x]Please remember to click Mark as Answer on the post that helps you, and to click Unmark as Answer if a marked post does not actually answer your question.
