3 databases and 3 transaction logs exchange 2010
Hello, looking for advice on the following setup.
This is for a small business of 80 mailboxes. On a fiber san consisting of 12 x 300gb sas 15k disks in one large LUN RAID 10.
I propose to have 3 databases on one mail server. Each database will have its own partition of 96gb according to the exchange2010 calculator. Transaction logs for one week will amount to 3gb/database
I will also have a restore partition of 91gb.
So in total that will be 4 partitions for the databases and my question is should i put all 3 transaction logs in one partition of it's own?
Thanks in advance

Hi,
regarding that you have the luxury of a SAN, I would create dedicated LUNs for each database and logs.
Think of what would happen if the LUN with logs for all databases crashes.....

Thanks Markus for your reply. I was thinking of creating more luns but with just 12 disks how would I do it and get the full benefit.

Hi,
I am sorry but I can't deliver a step-by-step guide on how to configure volumes and LUNs on your specific SAN. And I am not sure if it is worth configuring a SAN by hook or by crook. I mean 80 mailboxes, i.e. 3 databases with 27 mailboxes each. Even
if this is not a best practice, I'd take my 12 disks, create 6 mirrors and place databases and logs on a dedicated mirror.

Markus
