hello everyone. there are a couple of users trying to send emails from there pda's through our mail server. it worked fine in the past but recently it has stopped working. it gives "550 5.7.1 unable to relay for...." all of the settings seem correct. i can't figure out what it is. will someone please help. thansk,

Hi, You need to configure the system to allow relay for the pda users. The exact procedure depends on the exchange server version but allow relay for authenticated users should do it. Leif

Hi Yes, the Authenticated computers/users should be allowed to relay mail by default. The 5.7.1 error code is associated with Application event log event IDs 1709 and 1710, please go the Exchange server to check if there is event IDs 1709 and 1710 recorded. Since "it worked fine in the past, but recently it had stopped working" what changes had been made to the Exchange server or on the PDA configuration? Can you remember? Instead of using PDA, can these users use OWA or Outlook to send email normally now? To resolve this issue, you may consider the following two Scenarios:: Scenarios 1: Authenticated computers not allowed to relay NDRs that contain a 5.7.1 error code can occur if the "Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay..." check box is not selected on the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) virtual server. To locate the Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay check box, follow these steps: 1. Click Start, click Programs, click Microsoft Exchange, then click System Manager. 2. In the Exchange System Manager, expand the Servers container. 3. Expand the container that is for your Exchange server. 4. Expand the Protocols container. 5. Expand the SMTP container. 6. Right-click on the SMTP virtual server object, and then click Properties 7. Click the Access tab. 8. Click the Relay button. 9. Click to select the Allow all computers which successfully authenticate to relay check box. We have some new users who wish to use IMAP clients for their e-mail. I set up the server and clients. Clients are able to receive all inbound mail. They are able to successfully send e-mails to addresses within the domain. However, none of the clients are able to send mail to addresses outside the domain - to hotmail.com or gmail.com for example. I enabled some logging on the Exchange 2003 server and it returned a message Category: SMTP Protocol, EventID:7010. I have tried your above scenarios and many more with no success. Can someone please tell me what Exchange wants?
