552 Exchange error due to VBA macro
I can't send or receive many Excel files and get the following message when I try:552 MS-Office file containing VBA macros found inside of the emailI checked my firewall (Sonicwall 2040 enhanced OS) and it is not being blocked there. I do not have a restrictions set at the global policy level in Exchange 2003. Any clues?

What version of outlook are you using?
I think this must be Outlook related

Hi,
When i went through different forum, it clearly states that it is something to do with Sonicwall fireball. Please check some internal mail transport which will not cross the firewall with excel attachment.

I have the same problem. I have tried disable "Internet E-Mail Security" in Symantec Anti Virus Corporate Edition", use Outlook Express, and all failed. The last thing I do is to send the file using WebMail. I also tried to compress the file before send & the file sent successfully.
I'm not too sure whether is Windows or Symantec, or firewall block the mail.

Just wondering if Sonicwall re-enabled that for v4, (meaning, when I upgraded, they reset that setting to default...) if so, not cool... but thanks Nystagmus, you solved my problem.JP

Ive been searching for this solution and you hit the nail right on the head! On my Sonic Wall NSA 3500, I followed your steps. By Selecting the SMTP section under Protocols, and unchecking " Restrict Transfer of MS-Office type files containing macros (VBA 5 and above)." Did the trick. Thank you!!!

This is a feature of SonicWall's gateway antivirus. I just had this same problem with a client. My particular case was a SonicWall TZ180 running the Standard 3.8.0 OS.
Login to the SonicWall
Security Services
Gateway Antivirus
Configure Gateway AV Settings
Check the box that says "Disable SMTP Responses"
Additionally, select the SMTP section under Protocols, and uncheck " Restrict Transfer of MS-Office type files containing macros (VBA 5 and above)." I unchecked all three on that page, as we have redundant mail antivirus in place for this client anyway. That resolved the issue.
I have seen this problem several times before and more or less ignored it. Thank you for this solution it worked for me on a NSA 2400 w/5.4.x firmware with the exception of only making the modification to the VBA selection, left the other items selected.JC

Hi Ken,
There might be some corruption occured with your exchange server that's why you are unable to receive excel in your mail. or Size of your excelsheet is too large to handle in mail. If in case of corruption error you can go to this site for your solution...http://www.office-repair.net/outlook-express-repair.php.
Thanks,

Worked for me... Thanks for the detail. SonicWall TZ215 had it blocked by default.Matthew Stringham
