554 rejecting banned content
One particular domain is getting a rejection message when sending email to my exchange server.
There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator.
<#5.5.0 smtp;554 rejecting banned content>
The incoming email is a law firm that has a lengthy email disclosure in their signature. They are sporadically able to send email. We are only having problems with this domain. I'm assuming if the domain gets rid of their email signature and
send the email in plain text it should pass through. Are there settings I can adjust on the Exchange server to allow this type of email through? I do have a Barracuda SPAM appliance in place, but I don't think this rejection is what is banning
the email.

I think it's the Barracuda.Ed Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

That's easy enough to discover. Check the SMTP log file on your
Exchange server. Do you see the 554 status? If not, then the appliance
sent it.

Hi lanwanman,
Personally I agree with Ed, but it is better for you follow Rich’s suggestion to confirm for the issue.
If you are using Exchange 2003, here are some related documents for you to configure SMTP logging:

I had this issue - it was the Barracuda Email filter that was blocking the incoming email.
First, go to the Basic tab and then choose 'Message Log' - then check the log for the blocked message in the usual way (I just entered the sender's email address). This should show up any blocked messages and the reason for being blocked. It should also
show the offending word or word pattern, in brackets.
Then go to the Block/Accept tab and then choose 'Content Filtering' and look for the word or pattern in the main 'Content Filters' section which lists word patterns and actions to be taken when triggered..
Once you've found it, simply modify the settings for Inbound/Outbound and Header/Subject/Body accordingly, then save changes!
Good luck :-)
