ADCDisabledMail problem
Hello,We run Microsoft Exchange 2003 with the latest service packs and updates. Our Active Directory is Windows 2003 native. We have some users in Active Directory that have e-mail attributes but no mailboxes. Yes, I know what you're going to say - why is this? I don't want to get into a long discussion about it - it obviously needs to be addressed and it will be in the future. My problem now is that those users are still showing up in the GAL, and when someone tries to e-mail them, the e-mail gets bounced. It's what gets returned that's a mystery to me - a message saying the person doesn't exist in Exchange ... but the person the message references isn't the person I e-mailed. For example, if I e-mail Jane Doe, and she fits this criteria (Exchange attributes but no mailbox), I'll get an NDR, but it will state that Joe Smith doesn't have a mailbox. I didn't e-mail Joe Smith, I e-mailed Jane Doe! What's worse, each time I e-mailJane Doe,Exchange responds again with the NDR, but this time it'll be, say, Sally Jones. All of the e-mail addresses Exchange responds to me with in the NDRs are disabled users. I'm assuming this is the case because my user, Jane Doe, has her legacyExchangeDN attribute set to ADCDisabledMail. I understand the quick fix is to delete her Exchange attributes or to at least change her legacyExchangeDN attribute to something else, but still, why does Exchange respond to this set of criteria with NDRs referencing seemingly random disabled e-mail addresses, none of which are the recipient I e-mailed?Thanks for your help.Anthony

If you are no longer in mixed mode environment and your Exchange 2003 organization is in native mode, it wil lmake sense to remove ADCDisabledMail attribute. Following article describes details. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa997413.aspxI am not sure if that is the issue causing NDR from random users though. Try the above first ans see if it fixes the issue.Bhargav Shukla - MSFT -
