ADSI Editor not allowing edit
I had an Exchange 2007 Server in my organization suffer a catostrophic failure and was unrecoverable. I have deployed a new Exchange 2007 Server and as i expected, the old defunct server still shows up in the hub transport. I am trying to use ADSI to to remove it which I believe generally works, but for some reason this system will not allow me to delete it, the delete key stays black and never goes active (red) I have gone to all of the OUs below this server and I can neither edit nor delete any of the items, it isn't that I get an error, it won't even allow me to try. The Exchange 2007 Server (STD) is on a Windows 2007 Enterprise x64 machine and the Domain controller is a Windows 2003 Enterprise server.

It's not supported to remove Exchange 2007 this way. I would recommend reinstalling the dead 2007 server using the /recoverserver switch which will pull information about that server from AD. You can then remove it gracefully after that if needed. How to remove Exchange 2007 from a computer http://support.microsoft.com/kb/927464 Exchange 2007 is removed differently from earlier versions of Exchange Server. You cannot manually remove Exchange 2007 from a computer. The only supported ways to remove Exchange 2007 are to use Add or Remove Programs or to use the Setup program on the Exchange 2007 CD to remove Exchange 2007 and to remove the Exchange 2007 object from Active Directory. Problem is that I have had this client since about 1 hour after the failure and do not know the original configuration of the server. I don't know the number of drive partitions, sizes etc... I was told that to use /recoverserver you needed to keep the values the same. The person that configured the unit is no where to be found an even is he was reachable I doubt he noted anything. I have little experiance with /recoverserver because I have always been able to restore from a good clean backup and for a long time now everything i do is virtual so I use snapshots which makes life easier. If you feel it won't matter that I do not have the values then I will go this route.

Hi You can remove it with adsiedit, but you need to be sure what to do because it is just like Andy wrote, the unsupported way Is this a single server solution i think it's pretty sure that you will be enough with setting up the server again with 3 or 4 partitions (something like this, ex below) and then run the setup /recoverserver switch, it will collect the info from AD. When successfully installed, you can just uninstall it by book from control panel.
