Trying to setup a lab for student testing. Domain is setup with child subdomains to avoid administrative issues where one student group would be able to destroy ohter aspects of the class test environment from another. AD LDAP Layout acme.local group1.acme.local (seperate domain under higher level acme.local) group2.acme.local (seperate domain under higher level acme.local) ... etc..... ************************* Issue is that for application reasons for some administrative tools I had to use, I had to load the Domain Controllers at the "acme.local" level with Windows 2008x86 Enterprise. (aka 32bit). This means that the only "Skema Admins" and "Enterprise Admins" group that exists is at the "acme.local" level. Each subdomain (group1.acme.local) is hosted via a pair of Windows 2008R2x64 DCs such that each group can host their entire lab environment and be within the same name space (common file DFS root for data etc... for entire training environment) yet seperate from eachother. Issue: I can not run the Exchange wizard as "group1.acme.local\administrator" even when I add that account as member of "amce.local\Skema Admins" group. Failure is that I need to run the Skema extentions from the DC at "acme.local" sysetm level. Their is no Exchange 2010 32bit version, so I can't use the Exchange Binary to run the skema update. I downloaded Exchange 2007 beta just to run the updates and it ran, seems to have done some updates, but Exchange 2010 at the "group1.acme.local" level still says their are skema issues. Question: How can I extend the skema for the domain for Exchange 2010, when the skema master server is running Windows 2008 x86? ArrowSIVAC

Their is the issue. The only servers in the acme.local level are two Windows 2008 x86 servers. The servers are dedicated for maintaining a higher level Domain environment, isloation of labs from global AD needs etc... They are the only two servers in that level so I can avoid rebuilding that level of the forest in the event of lower level domains needing to be broken down and rebuilt. I can not run "setup.com /ps" from the Exchange 2010 DVD as it says that this is not a binary that can not be run (because it's 64bit). Hense my attempt to use Exchnange 2007 beta installation, which comes as 32bit.ArrowSIVAC

There isnt an issue. You run the prepare schema from the Exchange server. It will apply to the Schema Master over the network. Another issue you have is that you are racing ahead with application upgrades but leaving your core infrastructure behind. This is never a good way of going about things and stores up problems. I did create a Virtual Windows 2008R2x64 host and join to the acme.com level and run both the prepareschema and also the prepareAD setup. This has not fixed the error when then (even after 12 hours of time to replicate down to sub-domains within the forest). Hi, You need to run Setup /PrepareAllDomains from the 64bit server in the forest root domain. This will fix the problem you are having. /MartinExchange is a passion not just a collaboration software.

The command "setup.com /prepareAllDomains" was the resolution to the AD Schema errors of the Exchange installation. Thanks for all the help on the posts. Now I have to figure out what is wrong with IIS with errors of "Unable to read data from the Metabase" Seems a bit obtuse for such a simple setup of an exchange server... Big thanks mracket for this tip! Solved the problem of installing Exchange 2010 in a fully-trusted but not root domain. Installed 2008 and ran Setup /PrepareAllDomains in the root domain. Exchange is now up, beginning to configure.
