AD account name different from email id
Hi,
I am planning for a new deployment of Exchange 2010 and AD 2008 R2.
To maintain uniquness of user accounts, I have planned to use Employee ID (alpha numeric) in AD. If I do this will I be able assing email ids as
first.last@company.com even though the AD account is employee id.
I am doing this since all the users in AD do not reqire an email account. Approximately out of 10,000 user accounts, email is requred only for about 1000 users.
I do not want to have a mix if two standards on my active directory. Will I be able to this? Does any one foresee any issues. Please share your suggessions.
Thanks,
Vasudevan

You should not have any problem doing this. There is no requirement that the user's AD account name match their email address. [string](0..33|%{[char][int](46+("686552495351636652556262185355647068516270555358646562655775 0645570").substring(($_*2),2))})-replace " "

Hi Mjolinor,
i have faced one issue where AD user log-on name is different and mail ID created is different. B'coz of this emails are getting bounced.
below is error code. I think if we use email ID same in AD and exchange should resolve the below error. I am not in touch with AD and exchange any more so I wonder how i can use the different login name and email ID Please help me with steps.

Thats perfectly fine. My logon is marnold@ and my email address is first.last@. In fact, moreover, the FQDN for my AD is sub.domain.com and my email is domain.com. Email domains and their addresses have got nothing to do with AD and UPNs in AD have got
nothing to do with email addresses. Sure, they are the same in a lot of places but they are not the same in as many or more.
