AD account with no email address shows on the GAL
Exchange 2007 I have a few accounts that have no SMTP address and are not on the EMC but they are coming up on the GAL (with no email address). How do I resolve this issue? Thanksismael

Can you open the properties of user in ADSIEdit.msc and check the value of showInAddressBook attribute? It must be <Not Set>.Amit Tank | MVP Exchange Server | MCITP: EMA | MCSA: M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com

These Could be either due to replication issues between DC's. Please Update the GAL in Outlook. Start outlook click on Tools ->click on send/receive ->click on Download Address Book then uncheck download since last send/recieve click on OkVinod |CCNA|MCSE 2003 +Messaging|MCTS|ITIL V3|

Amit Thanks for the reply. I have attached a screen shot of the showInAddressBook atribute. I have 2 lines set. Should I delete 1 line about the GAL. ismael

There you go. Now let us know some background of the issue... Were these accounts had mailbox earlier? If yes, were these mailboxes removed recently? If so then as Vinod said, it might be replication issue so wait for sometime and verify the GAL in OWA which shows more recent status of address list... If these were no mailboxes in past then first thing set the attribute msExchHideFromAddressLists value to true so it will hide the object in GAL, now aboutshowInAddressBook it should NOT have any value if users are not mail or mailbox enabled so you can remove the values (save the value at somewhere before removing)...
