A local loop was detected
hi Guys,I noticed that there couple of email that stuck in transport submission queue with an error msg of "a local loop was detected", andthere is nothing ican do aboutit.. it will gone by itself after couple of hour later.. when it gone, i assume the email still delivered to user mailbox, but i didnt tracking that.. it is not happen everytime, once in the blue moon it happen, will trace where is email suppose to be send to and verify if successful deliver to user mailbox when it gone duringit happen again. Anyone has encountered the similar issue before? will that cause of any email lost? Does it affecting outbound email? there are couple of users reported they received exchange delivery delay notification after i noticed the problem of stuck email in submission queue. Those delivery delay email was send out successfully right away of user sent time after i have verified the message tracking and even from SMTP gateway, yet user still received the delay notification? this is weird... it might be seperate issue but since it happen at the same time, so i better share it out, it might be contribute to the originate issue.. Please assist.. ~ Many thanks....

hi, How does the Mail flow happen? do you have only the HT which transfers email to Internet ? or do you also have EDGE server? when this looping happens are these mails are meant for internet or local emails? i would also recommend you to check your Update Rollup level and apply the same if you have not done so. The Update Rollup 9 is out now http://www.microsoft.com/DOWNLOADS/details.aspx?FamilyID=55320be2-c65c-48bb-bab8-6335aa7d008c&displaylang=en

Hi,Are you using exchange 2000/2003 server as BH for facing internet for outbound messages If yes then check SMTP send connector which you have created for routing message to legacy exchange servers.Generally Looping issue occures ifhave legacy exchange sevrers in ORG and did not configure link supression for legacy exchange servers. That willgeneratea routing loop because that connector would keep on overriding Exchange 2000/2007' sense of implicit routing.http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa996728.aspxhttp://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa998953(EXCHG.65).aspxIf above environment is not have then please update us to troubleshoot furtherAnil

Hi Vinod,we dont have EDGE server, we have two HT server which handling internet and local email between both remote site, all remote site email will route thru these HT servers for internet outbound email. Those stucked email that i noticed they were partial for internet inbound and even local emails too... do you think the update rollup 9 is going to resolve this issue?

Hi Anil,Yes, research result shown that this loopoing issue usually occur if there is legacy exchange in ORG.. but we are using pure exchange 2007 environment, how does it happen? We have two site, primary and remote site..each sites are contain of 2 HT/CAS server and clustered mailbox server, mail routing for remote site exchange server which will route thru primary HT/CAS server before it out to internet, same as internet inbound email.. it will first reach to primary site HT/CAS server then route to remote site of mailbox server for storedir.

It would be better to keep the systems up to date with latest update rollups

True, but it will need to go thru the upgrade process which it will take time to do so... priority concern which is the looping issue, unless the roll up might help out which i can expedite the process by submit request to higher management for approval.. otherwise, further study on the issue is needed...

after whole day monitoring, I noticed those looping email are from internet inbound email to a same destination of recipient, the recipient is a valid user, I have captured down the message detail.. now still queuing in submission queue, waiting it gone then will verify does it delivery to recipient mailbox successfully or not..additonal info :-i was not sure this is related, lately we have done mailbox migration from exchange 2007 server located at different forest domain. I noticed those moved mailbox email addresses tab has included x400 and x500 pointing to old exchange server 2003 at foreign forest domain (believed that these mailboxes haven been migrated from exchange 2003 to exchange 2007 at foriegn forest). Wondering does this cause of looping issue?

Hi,Can youcheck the mailbox rules configuration of the recipient and sender to determine whether automatic message forwarding is enabled for those you see looping of mails.I will recomend you to enable diagnostic logging on MSExchange transport for couple of days and analyze reports.http://exchangepedia.com/blog/2007/05/exchange-server-2007-logging-smtp.htmlAnil
