A user with multiple email aliases has issues while forwarding email via owa rule
Hi all,
I have a user who has got multiple alias for example:
username: marrya
email id:marrya@xyz.com
alias1(smtp): mysales@xyz.com
alias2(smtp): commission@xyz.com
Since this user(marrya) is no more working with us, what the exchange admin did is after resetting password he created a rule in her owa to forward all messages to martin@xyz.com & isha@xyz.com
The issue is all messages are recieved except the emails coming from the alias is not getting forwarded to martin. If we check the orginal mailbox the messages sent to the alias mysales@xyz.com, commission@xyz.com are there in the inbox.
If i enable a forwarding from the exchange delivery option. even the email to aliases are getting forwarded. but the issue is i have multiple users to whom we need to forward.
So what would be the option? is it to create a Transport rule and any idea why it doesn't work with owa rules? Exchange 2007 environment
Thanks.

Yes, I am agree to create one transport rule and setup forwarding as you need.Anil MCC 2011,ITIL V3,MCSA 2003,MCTS 2010, My Blog : http://messagingschool.wordpress.com

Hi
Since you want to forward the mails to more number of users and also two three email alias, we dont have have any option to forward as you wish.
I would recommend you to give full access to that mailbox (marrya) to all the users, to which you are forwarding emails.

If the user is no longer working for you, then why keep the mail going to that mailbox. If you need to keep the mailbox, for data retention purposes, then give the mailbox a new primary smtp address marrya-old@xyz.com and remove the others. Then create a
new group for each email address on the old mailbox, so a group for commissions@ then just add the users it needs to go to as members of that group and so on.

If its working via Exhange Delivery Option, creaete a DL with all the users to whome mails needs to be forwarded. and add that DL in delivery options as forwarder.
Or the best option is create a Transport Rule. Thanks & Regards, Sandheep [...:::""I can't do it" never yet accomplished anything; "I will try" has performed wonders ":::...]

Hello,
Thanks for your reply. The mailbox is still kept idle since its an agents who has got very valuable clients still dealing with, all the ongoing deals and transactions are thus forwarded to various dept. And we didn't want to pile up creating several ids
also mailbox limitation based on license. so decided on going with creating alias and its easy/not much difficulty to manage. Just created a transport rule for now which works good. however i am very curious to know why the owa rule doesn't work? does anyone
has any clue?Vik -------- MCSE, CCNA

Hi Vik,
You may create a transport rule to forward email messages to a Distribution Group List which contains multiple user account. The DL will not create
physical mailbox or break your mailbox limitation.
Regarding the OWA rule, I think it is working since the email message sent to
marrya@xyz.com have been forwarded to martin and isha.
Regarding the alias mailbox,
mysales@xyz.com,
commission@xyz.com, I assume it is separated mailbox that is different form
marrya@xyz.com. Did your Exchange admin create OWA rule on these two mailboxes? If not, add the OWA rule as he/she did on mailbox
marrya@xyz.com, and then try again to see if this works. Fiona
