Accessing an old Exchange 5.5 DB with Windows 2000 server
Hi -Here's my situation - the motherboard and processor died on the NT 4.0 SP6 server that has Exchange 5.5 installed, it also contains the hard drive with the current email DB. We removed the hard drive that contains the DB from the NT 4 server and installed it into a Windows 2K server. We can access the data through explorer, but when we install Exchange 5.5 on the Win 2K server and point it at the DB it fails to connect. The Information Store service will not start, along with many of the other Exchange services. What do I need to do to access this data? Sorry I can't be more specific about the errors I receive - the server is actually located in a building 1 hour away from me, and without an internet connection. I need to access this data ASAP - any suggestions? By the way - I'm a Novell guy who got stuck working on this for legal purposes - this is my first experience with Exchange so please be gentle. Thanks!waw

i believe back with exchange 5.5 os information, along with many other system attributes, including hostname are stored within the database. rebuild an nt4 machine with the same everything and try the restore. its best not to introduce any more change than necessary in a disaster recovery scenario
