Accessing another user's mailbox
Hey there
I understand there are two methods to access another user's mailbox. For this example, I am User1 and I want to access the mailbox of User2. I do not have User2's password as per security policies.
i. Give Full-Mailbox access and then add User2's mailbox to the Outlook profile of User1. I then see User2's mailbox in my Outlook too, as well as my own.
ii. Access OWA and select the option to view another user's mailbox. I can then view User2's mailbox in OWA.
Question, when using method i I am really using my Outlook to view data within User2's aren't I? For example, if I create a Calendar appt for User2, I am using User1's Outlook. How about for method ii though, is using this method essentially the same as being
directly logged onto User2's mailbox?
Environment is Exchange 2007

In Outlook yes you are. If you create an appointment Outlook is creating this.
Via OWA, you are logging onto users 2 mailbox via HTTP and not using MAPI, yes you are logging onto the mailbox

Hi,

User1's Outlook.
Yes, you can view data of User2’s mailbox using User1’s outlook.

For method
ii, you should first grand ‘Full
Mailbox Access’ permission. Full mailbox access - Allows the users with this permission the ability to read and write to the mailbox which includes reading e-mail, deleting e-mail, sending e-mail, and adding notes and other items to
the mailbox. So this method is the similar as being directly logged onto User2's mailbox.
Hope this helps.
