Accessing mailboxes in different forest
Hi
We are currently running Windows 2003 AD/ Exchange 2003 SP2. The domain name is domain.com
We have also have a seperate Windows 2008 R2 AD forest - domain2008.com. There is a two way trust betweem the two forests. domain2008.com does not have an Exchange org associated with it.
We need to do an interesting thing -
i) Move a bunch of user accounts from domain.com to domain2008.com
ii) Ensure that these accounts still have access to resources in domain.com
iii) The moved accounts however need to keep access to their mailboxes which are located in the domain.com Exchange org
Can anyone recommend a suitable method for carrying this out?
iv) Also, out of interest ,is it possible for an AD forest to have more than one Exchange org?

Hi,
If the purpose is just user movement the you can user ADMT(active directory migration tool) to move user across forest, here are the link to download & documents : http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=20C0DB45-DB16-4D10-99F2-539B7277CCDB&displaylang=en

Hi,
iii) The moved accounts however need to keep access to their mailboxes which are located in the domain.com Exchange org
You can achieve this by using the following method:
Give the full access permission of the mailbox which in domain.com to the user in domain2008.com
======================================================================
1. On domain.com,Open Active Directory Users and Computer.
2. Right click the mailbox user and choose properties.
3. In Exchange Advanced tab, click Mailbox Rights.
4. Click add button, then click Location button. Select user.com. You will see user.com if you successfully set up the trusted relationship between the
two domains.
5. In enter the object names to select, type in the user name which in domain2008.com.
6.
Return to the Permissions window, highlight the user you just added. Under Permission list, mark “Full mailbox access” as allow.
Then the user in domain2008 is also able to access the mailbox in the exchange.com. When
you open OWA, you can use both two accounts (domain/username or domain2008/username) to access the mailbox.
If there is any unclear, please let me know.
