After downloading and running the install of Office 365 from the online web access version. I uninstall the pre loaded trial version from my laptop however I continue to receive the activation prompt.  Is there a way to stop this without having to uninstall and reinstall the software?

Based on the description, there was already a trial version installed in your laptop before you downloaded the Office 365. For such scenario, I suggest you uninstall the trial version then install the downloaded Office.

In your case, when you uninstalled the trial version, some common components in both the trial version and the downloaded Office 365 may get removed, which may be the reason to this issue.

The quickest way to fix it is to repair Office from Control Panel -> Programs and Features, you don't have to uninstall then reinstall it.
