Active Directory Domainwide Roles
Hi,
My question is related to domainwide roles, as per the defination of domainwide roles, when we install first domain comtroller in domain it will have all 3 roles by default, my question is, if i create first domain controller in forest called softtech.com,
by default it will have all 5 roles, when i promote another one domain called pune.softtech.com as a child for softtech.com it will become child domain controller and hold all 3 domainwide roles, again if i promote another domain called production.pune.softtech.com
as a child for pune.softtech.com, it will hold all 3 roles or not?MCP

Hello Shyam,
I think you are talking about FSMO roles... yes those 3 (pdc emulator, rid, infrastructure) will be there for each domain(including child domain)...

Hi,
Thanks for your reply, now my question is, if this is the way domainwide roles are working, if you search on internet everywhere the domainwide roles defination like this.....
"Two forest-level roles are assigned to the first domain controller created in a forest and three domain-level roles are assigned to the first domain controller created in a domain"
here what is the meaning of "First domain controller created in a domain", is this term is applicable only if you have ADC in your enviorment.

"first domain controller created in a domain" is the particular machine where you are running dcpromo first time for each domain..
even if you do not have ADC the PDC would be first domain controller..
