Activesync with Outlook 2013

I have Outlook 2013 with Windows 8 ...

I use both of my iPhone's to connect to an exchange server obviously via Activesync and at home I use outlook web access to access my e-mails at work ... however my intention is to be able to access them via Outlook instead ...

However, when I try to set-up an account in Outlook 2013 with Activesync I get the following error:

"Log onto Exchange ActiveSync mail server (EAS): The server cannot be found"

However I am using the same mail.xxx.com.au server that I put in my iPhone ... does anyone have any suggestions on what I am doing wrong?

Outlook 2013 does not support ActiveSync Connections to Exchange. This is by design.

See the below blog post written by Tony Redmond for more information about this.

Ask your IT Support if they have enabled Outlook Anywhere and it they have...You can configure Outlook to connect using that instead.

It is a misunderstanding that we can use ActiveSync to connect Outlook 2013. I'd suggest you setup Outlook 2013 new profile via AutoAccount Setup. For detailed steps, please refer to:

Hope it is helpful.

I have the same issue, at work we connect using Exchange on our intranet, at home I can connect using any mobile device through EAS. Outlook 2013 doesn't connect to my mail, the auto setup just says 'an encrypted connection cannot be made with your mail server' then it tries unencrypted connection, fails and tells me my email or password must be wrong.

I've read Tony Redmond blog entry for this, is there simply no way I can use Outlook to connect to my mail? It seems rather annoying that I'm having this much trouble using a program for its intended purpose.
