Add user to Custom Address List in the GAL
I have a custom address list in the GAL of an Exchange 2003 system. Filters are not enabled. I am unable to get a new account moved into a custom address list. Anyone have any ideas?I have not found any options in Exchange System Manager.

What is the criteria you use to move the user to the address list? Do you use ADSIEDIT to specify the address list manually?MMilind Naphade | MCTS:M | http://www.msexchangegeek.com

Remember, an Address list, for intents and purposesis just a a list of mail recipients from Active Directory. You populate the contents of that list by creating a filter and storing it in the "purportedSearch" attribute on the Address List object in Active Directory. If you're comfortable with ADSIEdit.msc, you could use it to look at your Address List object in the Configuration partition of Active Directory. (Under Services ->Microsoft Exchange)For example - If I want a Custom Address List for everyone in the HR department, first, I'd find a property on their user object that denotes that their department. For the purposes of my example, let's say the "Department" attribute contains thevalue"Human Resources" in all ofthe user objects belonging to employees in HR.UsingESM, Ican create a filter thatselects mail enabled objects than"contains" Human Resources in the Department attribute. The bottom line - An Address List isn'ta container. Itdoesn'tcontain child objects like an OU, or maintain a list of members like a group- you must specify some sort of search filter.-Greg

I found my solution by going into ESM->Recipients->All Address Lists and right clicking on the Address List that I wanted the file to go to, and properties. Someone had kindly set up a filter where a particular phrase in the description field of the AD profile would automatically move the object to the correct list. Thanks for your help.
