Address List Not Populating Within Outlook
All, Currently on Exchange 2003 SP2. Created a new Address List under "All Address Lists". On the Properties of this Address List>Advanced tab, I used a filter to populate the list with the criteria I want/need. Basically, Field>User (Company), Condition (Starts With), and a value. When looking at the Address List within Exchange System Manager, it populates the list correctly and successfully. However, when you open a new mail message within Outlook, click on the "To" button, select the new address list from the Address List drop down menu, it is not populated at all. It is entirely empty. You cannot even do a search on the list. I have verified that the list is empty in 3 different versions of Outlook. Outlook is not in cached mode and, I've also waited over the course of 48 hours to ensure that Exchange had updated. Still no success. I've checked permissions on the Address List itself within System Manager but, everything seems correct. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.... Thanks - joe

Cached mode? If so, you're looking at the Offline Address Book. That's what you need to troubleshoot. Four things have to happen--and in this order--before recipients show up in the GAL in Outlook with cached mode, i.e., the Offline Address Book: 1. The object or change must replicate to the domain controller the OAB generating server uses. 2. The offline address book must be generated. This is a scheduled activity. 3. The OAB system public folder must replicate to the public folder server the user's Outlook 2003 and earlier is using, or the File Replication Service must replicate the OAB files to the CAS the user's Outlook 2007 or 2010 is using. 4. Outlook must synchronize itself with the offline address book. This is directed by Outlook. http://theessentialexchange.com/blogs/michael/archive/2007/11/13/forcing-an-offline-address-book-to-get-updated.aspxEd Crowley MVP "There are seldom good technological solutions to behavioral problems."

Okay - Figured this one out. Realized that none of the users were mail enabled. Once I did that, it worked as expected. Unfortunately, I can't have these users mail enables but need them in an Address List so, just going to gothe Public Folder route and check the "Show this folder as an email address book. joe
