Admin tools installation problems on System admins computer - Server win 2008 - Exchange 2007
Hi, Please be kind as this is my first forum and discussion I have entered/created. I have a problem installing the Administation tools for Exchange 2007 on my computer at work (I am the only systems admin left in the company that is not on holiday) Main problem - Installing Admin tools to my PC, I have the rights to the server (Exchange admin + Schema Admin) I get as far as finishing all the pre requisits needed and Hit install, The install starts then a pop up says it has failed due to a file is missing (ldifde.exe) and a log recored, The log says that I don't have a file called, ldifde. I have tryed copying this from the server to my computer and putting it into the c:/windows/system32 folder, But on trying to Install exchange admin tools again gives me back a new message, (it seems 64 bit files wont work on a 32 bit system) but at least it does not say the file is missing :). The new problem is i cant get this file in 32 bit form from anywhere, I cant find it online as a downloadable, I can't find it on the microsoft pages or in any forums, Am I doing something wrong? Short from creating a new Exchange server (32 bit) just to get this file I am at a loss, also admittidly I was well out of my deapths to begin with. Systems running - My computer running Windows XP 32 bit (I want this to have Admin tools installed so i can use active directory + have the exchange options working) The Server - Running windows 2008 with Exchange 2007 installed (This is a 64 bit system with 64 bit Versions of both OS and exchange installed) Any help would be most appriciated Artazan,

Ok, so you can install the 32 bit Management tools to your XP workstation: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=6be38633-7248-4532-929b-76e9c677e802&displaylang=en or RDP to the server directly and run EMC from the Exchange Server.

There in lies the Problem, Remoting to the server is all well and good, (I have set out rolls and Admin tools is working well, But for my 32 bit XP computer, I have tried to install the 32 it Tools using the Download page you have given, The installe starts and I ahve does the pre install list and the option to install Exchange server is avalable, I click it and after accepting the agreement i click custom install, it does the checks that all come back fine, Then I click Next/install. The install starts and soon comes back with an error, File missing (logs indicate that the file ldifde.exe is missing, (From research into this others say just get it from the server and place into System 32 folder) upon putting this file into my System 32 folder and another go at installing at the same place it says that the file is 64 bit and can not be exercuted, (I can not use my file from my 64 bit server and can not find a 32 bit version to use from online) "Am I doing something wrong? Short from creating a new Exchange server (32 bit) just to get this file I am at a loss, also admittidly I was well out of my deapths to begin with". Thanks for looking into this for me, Its much appriciated. Artaszan

This chap had the same problem I am having but was fortunte to have an old server to refer to, this might give a better explanation of my problem, It also gives a resolution that is not an option for me, although it I did think of it before I read his problem, http://www.mcbsys.com/techblog/2010/07/cant-install-exchange-2007-management-tools-on-xp/ This is the link to his problem and resolution, Please note I do not have an old decomissioned Exchange server kicking around, Artazan

Hi Artanzan, I would copy it from other server, if no, I would download or build a server, and then copy it. Regards! Gavin
