Advice needed for move Exchange 2010 to another hardware
Hello fellows, We need to move an Exchange Server 2010 which is currently installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard to a new server with Windows Server 2008 R2 Enterprise, any advice on the best way to accomplish this with the minimun service disruption possible will be welcome. Thanks in advance! RegardsGabriel Talavera | MCP

Just install Exchange on to the new server and migrate the data. Now the problem comes with moving the clients. Do you have a CAS array setup? If not, then you are going to have to touch the clients, or hope that autodiscover works when you remove the old server. Unlike with previous versions of Exchange, when you move the mailbox to another server, it does not update the clients with the new location, because the clients do not connect to the mailbox server, they connect to the CAS role, which is still valid. If you have a CAS array then it is easy, you just change the DNS entry to the new server. I would suggest implementing a CAS array anyway, so that you can avoid these problems in the future. Simon.
