Hi all
Can anyone confirm if having duplicate mailbox Aliases is a problem if the smtp address is unique?
Thanks

It should be unique unless you are not serving mailbox access with POP3/IMAP4 service...

Hi AmitJust to confirm if all the users on 2007 have standard mailboxes then the Alias does not have to be unique? Then why have this a I was under the impression it was used for internal mail routing. If the alias is not unique can you confirm that no mail would be routed to other mailboxes through internal routing will another mailbox associated with the same alias. Thanks

Hummm... valid question but...
Internal mailflow works based on legacyExchangeDN which should be unique in exchange environment.
Even Exchange Management Console/Shell allows you to create mailbox with duplicate alias name but it will automatically adjust legacyExchangeDN as per below math...
legacyExchangeDN value is generated based on Alias but if any legacyExchangeDN already exists then it will create it by adding a number at last of alias and generate value of legacyExchangeDN...
Let me know if you still have any doubt...Amit Tank | MVP - Exchange Server | MCITP:EMA MCSA:M | http://ExchangeShare.WordPress.com
