Apply default email address policy fails
My environment is Exchange Server 2007 SP2.
Due to M&A and lack of foresight, the system I've inherited has four email addresses for every Exchange object. I've edited the default email address policy to remove the unnecessary ones but when I apply it, the extra addresses are still there.
99% of the mailboxes have the "Automatically update email addresses based..." checked. New mailboxes are created correctly. Shouldn't applying the policy remove the other addresses?
What am I missing?
Thanks in advance,
D.

Nope.

The addresses NOT in the address policy are retained in order to avoid
generating NDRs.
The old addresses won't hurt anything by being there. If you really
want them gone you can write your own script with Powershell, or you
could use admodify to remove them from the proxyaddresses property.

Agree with Rich, ADModify will solve your requirement.
You could check out this program called ADModify; great for making bulk changes in active directory:

Thank you. You are correct. I used ADModify before but forgot about this use.
The extra addresses were not being used in anyway and were showing up on mobile devices ahead of the default/reply-to address. We manually removed the extra addresses from those mailboxes but for consistency wanted to tackle the others.
