I have gone through lot of Microsoft documentation and they mostly talk about active database because they consider incoming/outgoing messages type stuff in planning. But in case of archive and when archive mailbox databases are kept separate, i didn't find any special planning.

Its not much that you need to look for planning apart from the below

Better to have a seperate mailbox  server for archive 

Configure storage seperately for that mbx server for archive

The only thing is you need to exclude the normal backup on your backup server for all these archive DB's and schedule a different backup if you wish to backup archive DBs

Make sure that you exclude them in the DAG
