Attachments Missing when sending to a mail contact
I have come across a small issue and was wondering if anyone has encountered this & found a way to resolve it.
I work for a company using Exchange 2010 SP1. Some of our users work externally and, along with an exchange mailbox, have a mail contact setup using an external email address to which all emails are forwarded to.
If someone internally sends an attachment to an external user using the mail contact , the attachment is not received.
However, if someone unternally sends the attachment to the external user's exchange mailbox, configured to forward all emails to the mail contact, the attachment is received.
For the moment I have advised users to ensure they send attachments to the exchange mailbox 7 not the exchange mail contact but can anyone offer any advice/solutions for this issue?
Many Thanks

Just to confirm your scenario, internal user sends to external contact and contact does not get attachment. If you delete the external contact and the internal user sends him, he gets the attachment?
When the user does not get the attachment, does he get winmail.dat or ATTx0000 etc? When the external user does not get the attachment does it look like it's stripped? Does the size of the message looks like it's including the attachment?
Does this occur with all external contacts?James Chong MCITP | EA | EMA; MCSE | M+, S+ Security+, Project+, ITIL msexchangetips.blogspot.com

Do you mean that the attachment can be received when the internal user forward all e-mails to the mail contact instead of sending the attachment directly? Does the
issue occur via sending message via OWA or Outlook?
To troubleshoot the issue, I suggest you send the message with the same attachment via OWA to check the result. Meanwhile, it’s also recommended to login the
mailbox on another machine for a test.
Thanks.
