Attachments Missing when sending to a mail contact
We have a strange problem When we send a mail with attachment to a mail contact, the attachment is dropped and doesn't arrive at the recipient. When we create a mailbox and then forward the mail to that same mail contact, he/she gets the mail with attachment !? If we have to make users and mailboxes for all external users, we will need too much licenses, it's not really an option. How can we fix this? Now we made 4 users + mailboxes and forwarded the mail to the external emailaddress. But we still have a lot external mail contacts to whom we can't send attachments I've read a post here regarding the same problem but no solution is provided, plz advise

Exchange 2010 SP2 - Outlook 2007 No, normally we only create a mail contact. But when we send a mail with attachment, the attachment is dropped. That's why we now created a mailbox and then forward the mail to the external emailaddress, now if we send a mail with attachment it arrives But that's not really what we want. It must be possible to send mail with attachments directly to a mail contact?

I'll explain with an example We have a mail contact info@apotheekvanoverschelde.be So we send a message with attachment, the mail is delivered but the attachment is dropped for no reason Now we made a user Apotheek01 with a mailbox, email apotheek.vanoverschelde@olv7w.org in exchange in the delivery options we forward the mail to info@apotheekvanoverschelde.be So, again, we send a mail with attachment, now the mail and the attachment are delivered Why? Why can't we send mail with an attachment directly to the mail contact?

Do you have any transport rules which may strip this? Any AV on Exch, if yes disable and test Enable pipeline tracing - http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/bb125018.aspx and see if the attachment is there. Sukh

The message size (which should be available in the SMTP send protocol log) should tell you that (attachements usually increase the size of the message by quite a bit). If the message size looks like the attachemtn is part of the mail it may just be that you're sending the mail to the Contact in a format that puts the message into the mail.dat file (i.e. the message is using TNEF). Unless the recipient's email system and e-mail client understand TNEF the attachment may simple be ignored. Check the Contact in the AD and see if the "Use MAPI..." setting is set to something other than "Never". If it's set to "Never" try sending the messag to the contact using HTMP or plain text instead of RTF. --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP --- Rich Matheisen MCSE+I, Exchange MVP

Hello, I had the same problem. Is solved by setting Use MAPI rich text format to NEVER in General TAB in properties of email contact. regards, Hector
