Attachments from GroupWise forwarded email appear as blank 64B attachments. I'm lost.
We're running Exchange 2003. We work with other departments on campus, one of which run GroupWise. A user from there will forward emails (as attachments) to my bosses. When either of my bosses view these messages, the attachment shows up as a blank 64B attachment. Their department says we're the only ones having this trouble. So I assume there's a problem on our end, but I can't find anything. Any help or advice would be great. I've attached screenshots and header information in hopes this will help. Of course, private info has been removed or blacked out.http://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g223/daedalus42/ex_01.jpghttp://i57.photobucket.com/albums/g223/daedalus42/ex_02.jpg Code Snippet Microsoft Mail Internet Headers Version 2.0Received: from mailserver ([xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]) by ourmailserver with Microsoft SMTPSVC(6.0.3790.3959); Mon, 6 Aug 2007 08:48:00 -0500Received: from mailserver not authenticated [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] by mailserver with NetMail SMTP Agent $Revision: 1.6 $ on Novell NetWare; Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:48:00 -0500Received: from SMTP-MTA by mailserver with Novell_GroupWise; Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:48:00 -0500Message-Id: <46B6E031.03E8.00C1.0@someotheremailserver.com>X-Mailer: Novell GroupWise Internet Agent 7.0.2 Date: Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:47:46 -0500From: "Another user" <user@email3.com>To: [removed email addresses]Cc: [removed email addresses]Subject: Fwd: [removed subject line]References: <DD43B1142978024E8C89DC7E1F46AD3402F76B16@someemailserver.com>Mime-Version: 1.0Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="=__Part2D0AD192.0__="Return-Path: user@email3.comX-OriginalArrivalTime: 06 Aug 2007 13:48:00.0774 (UTC) FILETIME=[67604260:01C7D830]--=__Part2D0AD192.0__=Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="=__Part2D0AD192.1__="--=__Part2D0AD192.1__=Content-Type: text/plain; charset=US-ASCIIContent-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable--=__Part2D0AD192.1__=Content-Type: text/html; charset=US-ASCIIContent-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable--=__Part2D0AD192.1__=----=__Part2D0AD192.0__=Content-Type: message/rfc822Return-path: <user@email1.com>Received: from mailserver (mailserver [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx]) by mailserver with SMTP; Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:27:54 -0500Received: from mailserver not authenticated [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] by mailserver with NetMail SMTP Agent $Revision: 1.6 $ on Novell NetWare; Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:27:54 -0500Received: from mailserver not authenticated [xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx] by mailserver with NetMail SMTP Agent $Revision: 1.6 $ on Novell NetWare; Mon, 06 Aug 2007 08:27:54 -0500X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft Exchange V6.5Content-class: urn:content-classes:messageMIME-Version: 1.0Content-Type: multipart/alternative; boundary="----_=_NextPart_001_01C7D82D.9774901C"Subject: [removed subject line]Date: Mon, 6 Aug 2007 08:27:52 -0500Message-ID: <DD43B1142978024E8C89DC7E1F46AD3402F76B16@someemailserver.com>X-MS-Has-Attach: X-MS-TNEF-Correlator: Thread-Topic: [removed subject line]Thread-Index: AcfYJnVPagHh5uhaTi+d/rsF74THWAAAz4cAAADuROA=From: "Some user" <user@email1.com>Sender: "Some other user" <user@email2.com>To: [removed email addresses]Cc: [removed email addresses]------_=_NextPart_001_01C7D82D.9774901CContent-Type: text/plain; charset="US-ASCII"Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable------_=_NextPart_001_01C7D82D.9774901CContent-Type: text/html; charset="US-ASCII"Content-Transfer-Encoding: quoted-printable------_=_NextPart_001_01C7D82D.9774901C----=__Part2D0AD192.0__=--

Give the following a read. I don't know if they will help you or not, but that's about all I found looking around. The first article is your best bet. "An attached e-mail message is blank when you view the message in Outlook in an Exchange Server 2003 organization or in an Exchange 2000 Server organization" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/899475/en-us "Users sometimes cannot see attachments that have the .p7m extension in Outlook" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913966/en-us "When the recipient opens the message, the attached file or the attached picture is missing" http://support.microsoft.com/kb/884881

Hi John, thanks for the links. Unfortunately, none of those seemed to offer a solution. I have an update to the problem. I contacted the original sender of the attachment and asked him to send a copy of it to my email account and one other user (both of whichare on the same Exchange server as the problematic accounts). We bothreceived the attachment fine. I then forwarded that email to my boss, who could view the attachment this time. This has me stumped. I starting to think that it might not be an Exchange problem, but I don't want to close the door completely on it being the culprit. All computer setups are running Outlook 2003 with every patch and service pack. We all connect directly to Exchange. We all run McAfee VirusScan Ent. 8.5 and Anti-Spyware Ent. I've checked log files for both McAfee, Exchange, and the local computers with nothing pointing to any sign of what might be happening. I've also checked the local Outlook rules on the computers and there is nothing setup to prevent an attachment from being viewed. We do have Intelligent Message Filtering on as well McAfee GroupShield 6.0.2. I know the attachment is fine, because why else would my boss be able to view it from me versus coming from another user? Are their any other suggested routes of troubleshooting you can suggest? Am I just overlooking something simple? Where do I go from here? Thanks for the help! One more thing. The users who are having trouble have mailboxes that are over 2 GiB in size. I think one is 2.4 GiB and the other is 4 GiB. But it's my understanding the 2 GiB limit is no longer an issue with OL2003+ and Exchange 2003+. Yes, we have talked with them about keeping their mailbox cleaned out, but they are the head bosses and we all know how that works.
