Hello,

Many times i get the question why attachments in Outlook won't open when they are working at home (connected with WiFi).

When they open an .xls, Excel will start and will be starting op for about 1 minute and then comes back with a grey screen.

When they are at work (logged in on the domain) everythings works well.

Does anyone have a suggestion?

And how about to save the attachment first then open the file.

Yes, they use the same computer.

We don't want to save the file first. It has to be possible to open the file straight from Outlook.

Could it be a setting in Outlook or on the Exchange machine? (cache?)

can it cause by the Size? how large are them? Have you tried from outlook "preview" and after it got freeze?

Do you use outlook in Cache mode/Over Http? Or do you use it in remote app? or VPN? Terminal Server or Citrix?

Just save the attachment first and see if it opens from local disk then we can know for sure something to do with outlook.

They use Outlook in cache mode...they don't use a VPN connection.

When they do use a VPN connection everything works fine, documents open instantly.

We have the same issue when opening files from windows explorer. If they are connected through only a WiFi connection the documents will open really slow (about 2 minutes) or not at all. When they are on A VPN they open really fast.

what generally the size of the files?

The size of the files is less than 100kb

just one more question after i won't bother you :) are these files are protected? or just a normal xls?

hm strange, sounds pretty strange. I try to investigate further, in the meantime maybe somebody else could help :)
