Hello I've a question about the -internal and -external URL from the Autodiscover Service. I configured the -external URL with the internet domain name, the -internal has the exchangeservername.mydomain.local as the URL. Now, I have a trust with another forest. Which URL do they use? From the Outlook Log it seems that they use the external URL. Is this correct, that non domain member are using the external? Is there a change needed? Thanks Norbert

The URL used should be same name that is in the certificate used by CAS. This is the name that outlook connecting to so make sure that the name is resolved correctly in DNS and pointed towards your CAS. remember that certificate can have multiple names, aka SAN certificate.

Hi I have a SAN Certificate installed and enabled. Both, the OWA and Autodiscover URL and also the internal Servername are added into this Certificate. A Client from the LAN (no domain meber) does try to connect using the external domain name. Is this normal? Are only domain member using the -internal Name of the webservices? I added the C-NAME autodiscover.domain.com to the DNS which points to the CAS Server. This is also possible to ping... Thanks Norbert

Hi, This is normal. The URL for the Autodiscover service is stored in the Service Connection Point object (SCP). By default, this URL references the internal FQDN of the CAS that is present when Autodiscover is installed. For example, the following URL is set: https://servername.company.com/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml Since the domain-connected user find the Autodiscover URL by contacting the AD SCP. For external non-domain user, due to it could not find the AD, it finds the Autodiscover by checking DNS through the predefined URLS: https://company.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml or https://Autodiscover.company.com/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml (where company.com is the portion of the users SMTP address following the @ sign) Thus, the name of the certificate must match the URL that the client is trying to communicate with. Of course, for internal domain-connected user, we can also use the external URL for Autodiscover as long as we change the SCP as external URL.
