Autodiscover certificate weirdness
Hi all,I've been reading the various threads about autodiscover and security certificates. I have the same problem only here's the deal:This is exchange 2007 under SBS 2008. I haven't set up any certificates, I haven't messed with the URLs of the services - to be honest I don't even know what that's all about. Can anyone PLEASE tell me where I can just turn this feature off? I don't need autodiscover, the emails here are working just fine, all we want is to NOT see that annoying security popup.PS Why does it have no effect when I tell it to trust the certificate?Anne Noid. Hi Anne, You see the security popup when using OWA or Outlook? The issue is caused by a certificate. We suggest you install the proper certificate on the server, for detail steps, you can refer to the following article: Chapter: Deploy SSL to Encrypt Messaging Traffic http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc182277.aspx Autodiscover service is a important feature in Exchange 2007, there is no way to disable it. Lots of functionalities based on this service. Hi Elvis,Thanks for the reply. To clarify my issue, the popup appears both in OWA (which I only used for the first time some minutes ago) and in Outlook. This is occuring for local workstations, i.e. these machines are on the domain that the Exchange server lives in.I get the usual certificate invalid warning for 'autodiscover.contoso.local', and strangely when I look, the certificate is saying it came from 192.168.0.1 (my sonicwall router). Here is what I get when I run the test command everyone loves so much (I hate it because the output is unreadable and worthless to me anyway): Id Type Message -- ---- ------- 1003 Information About to test AutoDiscover with the ... 1007 Information Testing server WINSERVER.lakegroup.l... 1019 Information Found a valid AutoDiscover service c... 1013 Error When contacting https://winserver.la... 1006 Error The Autodiscover service could not b...I will peruse this documentation however I'll admit to being a bit overwhelmed by most of what I've read so far... and somewhat 'underwhelmed' at the prospect of another couple of hours bashing commands into the Exchange Shell (what planet?!?) just to complete deployment of this product.I will follow the steps to create a certificate as you suggest, but could you tell me if this is something I did wrong during setup or the ensuing weeks of messing with settings, or is this just a part of the process that I missed?Having said all that can I fix the problem by disabling this encryption? I'm fairly sure nobody is packet sniffing the client's LAN... :-) Thanks in advance for any further info,Anne. Hi Anne, If the name is mismatch, it will display warnings in OWA and Outlook. The issue you described is an expected behavior. Now the only way is create a new valid certificate. If you have any issue during this procedure. I suggest you writing a new post on our forum, we usually focus on one issue in one thread. Regarding the 404 not found error, you need to install CA in the server firstly. http://www.petri.co.il/install_windows_server_2003_ca.htm Thanks, Elvis

EDIT: I started a new thread since this one was dirtied up with instructions for 2003 etc.http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/exchangesvrdeploy/thread/7f9b2c81-4eff-4996-af8f-6e501e95fde8Here you will find the answer I eventually came up with.
