Automated Computer Managment in Active Directory
Wondering if there is a way to automatically sort new and existing computer accounts based on IP range to a specific OU. We have several OUs definied by location and have GPO attached to the OUs. The only way I can see to clear this up for starters is to:
1. Ping computers to obtain subnet
2. Move computer account into corret location OU
Problem is couple of months down the line computers will be in wrong computer OUs.
Other solution I was thinking about as well is to have no location specific computers OU but instead have the computer GPO process with a WMI script that checked for the IP network. I am afraid that this option will add too much overhead.
Any suggestion/ideas from anybody?

Hi,
This is an Exchange server news group. It is much better to ask such a question in an active directory news group where all the AD experts are.

If you're doing this just to apply a site-specific GPO, why not just put those GPOs into the Site policy?

Oh sorry - is it possible for a admin to move the post?

Thanks for the suggestion!
Unfortaunly not all sites have domain controllers so some over half of them I would not be able to do like that or does it not matter?
