Automatic Replies wasn't able to read the scheduled configuration from the system mailbox
Hi all,
I kind of new to exchange 2010.Sorry if this is a simple question.
Server is running 2008r2 with Exchange 2010. Over the past few users state they are still receiving out of offices replies even with the OOF off. I have checked the client website and it is turned off as well as the outlook Client.
Issuing the CMLT below I get the Auto reply state is disabled.
Get-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration –identity username
In event viewer on the server I get a error / Source MSExchangeMailboxAssistant EventID / 3006 Task Category / OOF Assistant. After searching online there is not a lot of material for this error that I can find.
I have restarted the server and the error still occurs. The Service Mailbox Assistant is running. At this point I am stuck on what to do, any advice given would be grateful.
Thanks in advance

While troubleshooting this, you could run outlook from the command line with the option /cleanrules, this should prevent outlook to send oof messages.
Have you tried to disable OOF from OWA ? If not, try it and see if something changes: (OWA 2010) Press the Options button in the right top corner, from the sections on the left select Organize E-mail and select the Automatic replies tab.
Make sure you don’t have any Exchange Extensions commands listed as disabled items
Rule
If your Out of Office Assistant is turned off in both OWA and Outlook but you are still sending back automatic replies, verify that you don’t have any rules configured to reply to incoming mail;
Outlook 2003 and 2007
Tools-> Rules and Alerts Outlook 2010
File-> section Info-> button Manage Rules & Alerts
MFCMAPI
If all of the above methods fail and the OOF still remains on, you can use MFCMAPI to turn turn off the OOF as well. MFCMAPI is a free tool hosted on CodePlex which is the Open Source Community from Microsoft.
Make sure Outlook is closed and then start MFCMapi.exe In the main window choose;
Session-> Logon and Display Store Table Select the Outlook mail profile to logon to when prompted.
If you do not recognize this dialog, simply press OK to load you default Outlook mail profile.
You’ll now see a list of your configured message stores in your mail profile.
Select your mailbox by looking at the Display Name column. In the pane below, some properties will get loaded.
Look at the Property Name(s) column and select the entry called;
PR_OOF_STATE When you look at the Value column for this property, you’ll see it is now set to True.
Double click the entry to disable the check box in front of “Boolean”.
Press OK to close the dialog. Log off your session via;
Session-> Logoff

Hi Vincenzo,
I have tried the /cleanrules option a couple client machines it did stop the OFF replying for them. However, this option is not the best for us as most users in our company have a large amount of rules redirecting mailboxes. The /cleanrules start option
deletes all of this and the admin time taken would be intensive.
I have verified that using OWA automatic replies are off. As well as any rules in outlook that would send an auto reply.
I have tested the MFCMAP application and it does seem to work on PC users.
I have noticed that more users are having the problem. Also we have MAC users and I cannot clear the OOF with MAC clients.
Additional information I have found while working on this issue. If running the command:
Get-Mailbox | Get-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration | Where-Object { $_.AutoReplyState –eq “scheduled” } | fl identity
From the console I notice some mailboxes show this following error:
WARNING: The object Domnain.co.uk/name/name, name/ouname/username has been corrupted, and it's in an inconsistent state. The following validation errors happened:
WARNING: The end time that you entered occurs before the current time.
If I change the schedule settings of the mailbox
Set-MailboxAutoReplyConfiguration –identity “username” –AutoreplyState disabled
And run the command to see all the scheduled users the Warning goes away. However the OOF alerts are still being sent.
The event error seems to be pointing towards the MSExchange Mailbox Assistants. And how it integrates with Outlook and the OWA. That is a total guess and I have nothing to prove that.
Again thanks for your help with this problem so far.

Hi,
Try to dismount and re-mount the database, then restart MSExchange Mailbox Assistants.

Hi,
The Exchange server was restarted again this weekend due to emails not processing. I would assume that restarting the server would be the same as remounting the databases?
I am getting the above error message at a fifteen minute time interval.
I will try and remount the databases tonight after hours and let you know the results.
thanks,Ds

All,
Remounting the mailboxes did not resolve this problem.
After investigating the error out of office is not working at all for both inbound and outbound messages.
Any other ideas?Ds

Any luck with this isue, we are in the middle of migrating from 2003 to 2010 and have run into the same issues.
We are having the same issues with both our MAC and Windows Outlook clients, so I am guessing it is something server side. At first I thought it stemmed from users that had scheduled their OOF before their MB was migrated to 2010, but that's not
the case. The only thing the users have in common is all their MB's live on the same store. I have tried to dis-mout / re-mount and then restart the Mailbox assistant, but still does not solve this issue.
Right now we are at OS SP1 Exchange 2010 SP1 RU 3
Any ideas?
