BCC issue
Okay everyone, this is new to me...
One of our users sends out press releases to about 100 recipients. She usually BCC's the e-mails so there's some privacy to it. It seems that if she uses BCC the e-mails never go through, however, when she uses regular CC it works fine. Any ideas? Is there something special about BCC that limits the capacity?
Thanks

Andrew,
Please provide some information
* Does the user get any NDR ?
* Have you tried tracking the message ?
* Is this happening only to messages sent with over 100 BCCd recipients or any number ?
* Is the user sending the message to any POP3 enabled accounts ?
* What type of an Exchange setup do you have ?
Thanks.

The user receives no NDR. The messages never even make it to the queue. There are less than 100 recipients and no POP3.
We are running Exchange 2003 on Windows Server 2003 Standard. No front end/back end, just a single server.

Clarify: one user cant use BCC to send mail, but its fine with CC
Collect further info:
1. Version: Windows client OS, Outlook
2. Affected scope, does this symptom only happen on one user? (Other users can use BCC freely, right?)
3. Is the affected user not able to use BCC to anyone? (External or internal)
Troubleshooting:
1. Disable the anti-virus program and start OL to check in safe mode
<Start->Run->fill in "outlook /safe">
2. Create a new profile for your affected user on a new testing PC, then try to use BCC
3. Enable log and reproduce issue to track the missing mail
a. Enable SMTP log on ESM to track mail
http://www.computerperformance.co.uk/exchange2003/exchange2003_logs_SMTP.htm#Creating%20SMTP%20logs
Enable OL logging files for troubleshooting [based on OL2K3 SP1]
Start OL->Tools->Options->Other->Advanced->select "Enable logging" checkbox->OK and restart OL
Log file locations: C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\Opmlog.log
Important: It is very important that you turn off logging after you complete your troubleshooting. If you do not turn off logging, the log files continue to increase in size
Enable logging (troubleshooting) option
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/outlook/HA011742661033.aspx#Locations
b. Reproduce the issue on your affected PC

Thank you for the suggestions.
As far as I know, it's only for this one user. She has an iMac running OS X 10.5.2 using Entourage 2004.

Sorry, I didnt know the issue was related to Entourage.
Clarify: theres only one user who had this issue, the other who have same OS and Entourage will not encounter this symptom if they use BCC, right?
Collect unclearly info:
1. Does this user has delegate permission to send on behalf of another user, if so, see the link below
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/952382/en-us
2. Is the user not able to use BCC to both external and internal users? Can you try to send a testing mail to justa fewrecipients both external and internal? (with and without attachment)
Troubleshooting:
1. Check that un-receivable mail from affected users Sent Box, would BCC contacts be there if you opened the mail?
2. Founda bug for Ent2004 and E2k3: All recipients on BCC don't receive mail when mail is sent with at least one of the email addresses unresolved
Notes: But you said before, these recipients can be sent well if filled on CC, right?
3. Test affected users BCC on OWA
Workaround:
Check for a malformed email address in the BCC field

Hi, Andrew, did you try my suggestions? Does it work? Please let me know the result
June 20th, 2008 4:15am
Sorry, I have not tried them yet because I hadn't checked my e-mail in a while. Thanks for the info! I'll give it a shot today orMonday and see what I come up with.
We have 2 Mac machines and neither one can Bcc. However, they do use outdated lists and may have bad addresses in the Bcc. I'll check it out.
Thanks!
