Best method to setup a conference room scheduling
We always use a public folder for scheduling of a conference room, but we see now in Exchange 2007, we could possibly use a resource mailbox to do this. Does anyone have any suggestions for us?

sabo_e,Yes. Use the room mailbox function in 2007 as it is much more flexible. You can also create resources in exchange (laptops, projectors etc, etc)and then assignthem to a room too which gives the departmetn a much better way of assigning rooms and resources.I will post a link from Nathan Winters of the MMMUG here as sson as I find it. He covers resourcing in Exchange 2007 exteremely well.Found it.http://www.simple-talk.com/exchange/exchange-articles/using-exchange-2007-for-resource-booking/Hope this helps.NewbieNik

Our end users want to be able to pull up the conference room calendar and their personal calendar side by side- we use Outlook 2007 just likea shared calendar. Is this possible?

Most definitely, Yes!The Resource or Room mailbox is a fully functional mailbox muchthe same as a user mailbox, but with the AD account disabled. This means if a user has permission to that mailbox they can open the calendar alongside their own by slecting "open Shared Calendar" and typing in the mailbox name.

When I go to open the resource mailbox as a shared calendar it will not resolve the name and I have full permissions to that mailbox.

If it won't resolve the name then it probably hasn't been integrated into the OAB yet. Open you Exchange Management Console, go to Organization Configuration and Offline Address Book and right-click and update. Then you need to do a full send/receive in your Outlook to update your Address Book. It SHOULD then be available.

Okay it did work. But it is currently letting a end user that does not have permission be able to schedule that room, I thought by giving certain end users full access, this would not be the case.Do you know the command to view all permissions to an resource mailbox?

get-adpermission -identity resource | format-listor leave off the format-list part if it doesn't make too much sense.Although if ALL users can schedule it sounds like you may a mis-configuration in your AD groups. Check the permissions on that mailbox in Exchange Management Console and pay particualr attention to the groups listed. Then in AD Users and Computers, check the memberships of those groups.
