Cached Mode Problem - Address Book Not Updating
I have a strange issue with Exchange 2003 Server. We're running one server and Outlook 2003. For some reason, machines in Cached Mode are not receiving updates of the global address book. An email account created 10 days ago is still not appearing in the address list of cached mode machines. If I remove the client from Cached Mode it immediately sees the new addresses.I tried to DownloadOAB registry workaround (including deleting old oab's and ost's ) and that didn't help.I did see something mentioend about synchronizing afterwards but I'm not sure how to do that. I also saw someone mention Online Mode.Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!jim

It sounds like the OAB is either not being generated properly. One nice walkthrough on troubleshooting OAB generation problems can be found here: http://blogs.msdn.com/dgoldman/archive/2005/07/16/439665.aspx

We had same thing. Turned out Outlook was connecting in Non-Unicode mode and the OAB is posted in Unicode form. The way to check this was to go into Outlook, Account Settings, More settings, Advanced, toward the bottom it will say what mode it is in. If it says Connected in Non-Unicode mode, only solution was to delete the Outlook Profile and recreate, then verify after resetting it back up that it is now in Unicode mode.

What (if any) error do you see if you manually download the OAB from the client?

Never saw any error message, just when you did the download of OAB, it seemed to complete too fast, almost instantly.

I also encountered same problem that when don't use cache Exchange mode then GAL will view updated and and when check the cache exchange mode update e-mail addresses are not shown and unable to send e-mail to some users and no error generated while
downloading Online Address book. If I use non - cache Exchange then what are the problems that I have to encountered? If users E-mail is corrupted then users will able to receive the copy of his old e-mails from Exchange Server?
Plz help me to sort out this Problem.

Check the application log on the Exchange server that generates the
OAB. Increase the diagnostics logging level to see more detail.
If the OAB is generated without errors, then find and remove the *.oab
files from the Outlook client machine -- then download the OAB.

Do *any* of the users get an updated OAB?
What release of Exchange are you running?
Are there errors recorded in the Application log during the OAB
generation?
Are you sure that the OAB generation is being run? The Application log
should record events whe it runs.

Hello,
From the Windows Log I have received the following log. What should I supposed to do. I also get error
Process MSExchangeFDS.exe (PID=3812). Errors occurred while content was being synchronized from Unified Messaging server "4MWPK01" for object "Default Offline Address Book".
The remote server is unavailable. The local server stopped trying to synchronize after 5 retries. Check the previous error events that were logged by Microsoft Exchange File Distribution Service for more information.

Are there other errors recorded, too? This one just reports that there
won't be any more retries. There should be events that provide the
reason for the failure.

I'd get a backup of that database. Then I'd move the mailboxes to
another database and get rid of the one with the error.
