Can't Reinstall Office Home and Business 2010
This is a copy I purchased including a disc for install. At initial install I accepted a trial PRO install. I did not use the pro so I did not purchase it at the end of the trial. I was trying to clean up my computer but could not find a way to get rid of the trial programs that came with the trial PRO version so I completely uninstall the Office program. Now when I try to reinstall the standard version I purchased it hangs up half way through the install and halts without any error or other indication. I have let it run over 24 hours so I am certain this is a refusal to install. I have attempted this 4 or 5 times now with the same result even once running the Microsoft FIXIT for uninstall. Nothing seems to work.  What is happening beyond Microsoft programming refusing to permit my legal us of my software?  How do I get use of my software back?

Hi,

I suggest you use the System File Checker to run the sfc /scannow command to scan all protected system files and replace the incorrect versions with the correct Microsoft versions.

For a Windows 7 PC

1.Click Start > All Programs > Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
2.In the command prompt, type sfc /scannow and press Enter.
3.When the system scan is complete, try to install Office again.

For a Windows 8 PC

1.Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and then tap Search.
(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, and then click Search.)
2.Enter command prompt in the search box.
3.In the list of results, swipe down on or right-click Command Prompt, and then tap or click Run as administrator.
4.In the Administrator: Command Prompt window, type sfc /scannow press Enter.
5.When the system scan is complete, try to install Office again.

Then please also perform a clean boot to perform the installation, check if this will help.

Thanks for the response.  I have printed it and saved it.  I had to move on so I purchased a newer version of Office and installed it so I cannot test whether your suggestion will work.  I will use the copy I could not reinstall on the  next computer I purchase.
