Can't install 2007 Beta 2 Mailbox Role
I believe I meet all the pre-reqs but I cannot install the mailbox role. Other roles install fine. I get an error that an object cannot be found, error code 2147950640. Can't find that error code online much anywhere.
I am testing this on vmware 32-bit, have not tried on a stand-alone.

In case its related, any time I start the System Attendant (which does start) I get an event 9154 with an error code of 0x80040920, but it does start. May or may not be related.
I've tried this on a second computer and I get this in the event log.
Process MSEXCHANGEADTOPOLOGY (PID=2064). Site monitor failed to check current site name - Call=ExchangeGetComputerNameExW Error code=80070002.
Again, not sure if its related but its the same failure reason. All servers are Windows 2003 SP1.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.

FWIW, I could not uninstall the mailbox role either, it could not find the directory object SERVERNAME. So I went into ADSI Edit and found that the server was removed from the administrative group. Recreated the object (type msExchExchangeServer) and uninstall worked.
Will try to install beta 2 mailbox role again, we'll see.

Ok, I usually don't manage to have all 3 posts and fix my own problem, but I did.
A colleague tried the original install, and it bombed (same error above). I suspect that some of the prep steps weren't completely done by the installer (prep ad, etc) or there was a permissions problem, but don't know for sure. Then the installer failed and we couldn't recover. What I did do:
1) ran setup /pl (legacy) and then all the /p, /ps, etc steps manually. I like to do this anyway regardless of if the installer does it2) found a problem in one of the steps with a permission problem - resolved3) Tried running mailbox setup again, no go4) Couldn't uninstall until I added the server objectmanually to ADSIEdit5) Uninstalled the mailbox role and all of exchange6) Removed all the new site information (routing group, new admin group, etc) in the ESM. Could have done it in ADSIedit I suppose
Then I was able to install normally.
I think somewhere along the line the install failed and the setup program didn't clean up properly or enough, couldn't go forward or backward.
